PUBLIC FISHING EVENTS

During Arizona Game and Fish Department free fishing clinics, loaner rods are provided, bait is free, and no license is required to those who register during event hours.

SOUTHWEST REGION (Yuma, Somerton)

Saturday, April 29 —

  • Yuma Valley Rod and Gun Club free fishing event at Mittry Lake, sunrise-noon
  • Somerton free fishing event at Council Park Pond, 9 a.m. – noon

Wednesday, June 10 – City of Yuma Family Fish Fiesta at the Yuma West Wetlands Park (7 a.m. – 10 a.m.).

CENTRAL REGION (Phoenix area)

Free fishing clinics, loaner rods are provided, bait is free, and no license is required to those who register during event hours.

Thursday, May 6 — Youth and Community Fishing Day, Cortez Park (3434 W. Dunlap Ave., Phoenix). The Arizona Game and Fish will be working with the City of Phoenix and the Phoenix Police Department to provide a morning of free, family and community fishing and fun. Youth licenses will be given out free, on a first-come, first- serve basis to the first 25 individuals, ages 10-17 years of age that register for the event. In addition, Game and Fish staff from the Sport Fishing Education Program and volunteer instructors will be on hand to provide tips on fishing and answer your angling questions. Bring your own equipment or there will be loaner rods available. Participants, who register at the Game and Fish booth, will be provided bait and will not need a fishing license during the hours of the event.

Saturday, May 20 — Family Fishing Event, Tempe Kiwanis Park (5500 S. Mill Ave., Tempe). The Arizona Game and Fish Department will be providing families with some fishing fun, in conjunction with the Angelman Syndrome Foundation Walk 2017. The Walk will be going on for most of the day at Kiwanis Park, but for a few hours in the morning, families can come enjoy some free fishing.

 

NORTHWEST REGION (Havasu City, Kingman, Prescott)

Free fishing clinics, loaner rods are provided, bait is free, and no license is required to those who register during event hours.

Saturday, June 3 — Free Fishing Day, Goldwater Lake (2900 S. Goldwater Lake Rd. Prescott), 9-1 p.m. As part of the National Free Fishing Day, the Arizona Game and Fish Department is planning a day of free fishing for the whole family. For more information, please call the AZGFD Kingman Office at 928-692-7700 or the Sport Fishing Education Program at (623) 236-7240.

 

NORTH-CENTRAL REGION (Williams, Flagstaff)

WHITE MOUNTAINS REGION (Pinetop/Lakeside)

Saturday, June 3 — Free Fishing Event, Woodland Lake, Pinetop, 8 a.m.- noon

Saturday, June 10 — Free Fishing Event, Patterson Ponds, St Johns, 8 a.m.-noon

Saturday, June 24 — Hatch Toyota Fishing Derby, Fool Hollow Lake, Show Low, 7 a.m. – noon

July 7-8 — Women’s Only Fly Fishing Clinic, instruction Friday evening at the Pinetop Regional Office, Saturday morning at Silver Creek outside Show Low (pre-registration required).

SOUTH REGION (Tucson area)

Free fishing clinics, loaner rods are provided, bait is free, and no license is required to those who register during event hours.
