FAMILY FISHING EVENTS

During Arizona Game and Fish Department free fishing clinics, loaner rods are provided, bait is free, and no license is required to those who register during event hours.

Unplug kids and get them hooked on fishing!

Saturday, April 7

Youth and Community Fishing Day. 8 a.m. – noon. Cortez Park 3434 W. Dunlap Ave. Phoenix, 85051

Details: The Arizona Game and Fish will be working with the City of Phoenix and the Phoenix Police Department to provide a morning of free, family and community fishing and fun. Game and Fish staff from the Sport Fishing Education Program and volunteer instructors will be on hand to provide tips on fishing and answer your angling questions. The Phoenix Sportsman’s Warehouse store will be sponsoring a kid’s raffle. Youth licenses will be given away as well!  Bring your own equipment or there will be loaner rods available. Participants, who register at the Game and Fish booth, will be provided bait and will not need a fishing license during the hours of the event.

Saturday, April 21

Youth Fishing Day. 8 a.m. – noon. Bonsall Pond 5840 W. Bethany Home Rd., Glendale, Ariz. 85301.

Details: The Arizona Game and Fish will be working with the City of Glendale to provide a day of free, family fishing and fun. Game and Fish staff from the Sport Fishing Education Program and Certified Angler volunteer instructors will be on hand to provide tips on fishing and answer your angling questions. Bring your own equipment or there will be loaner rods available on a first-come, first serve basis. Participants, who register at the Game and Fish booth, will be provided bait and will not need a fishing license during the hours of the event.

Saturday, May 5

Free Family and Community Fishing Event. 8 a.m. – noon. Woodland Lake Park in Pinetop-Lakeside

Details: The Arizona Game and Fish Department along with the Town of Pinetop-Lakeside will host a free fishing clinic. The lake is scheduled to be stocked with trout just prior to the clinic, so the fishing should be good.

Arizona Game and Fish will have a limited number of fishing poles, tackle and bait available for public use during the clinic. This is a great opportunity to come out to Woodland Lake and learn how to fish. No preregistration is necessary.

Free Fishing Day! 8 a.m. – noon. Goldwater Lake, 2900 S. Goldwater Lake Rd. Prescott, Ariz., 86303

Details: As part of the National Free Fishing Day, the Arizona Game and Fish Department is planning a day of free fishing for the whole family. The Arizona Game & Fish Department Sport Fishing Education Program staff and volunteer instructors will be on hand to assist anglers. Bait will be provided and loaner rods will be available for those participants who sign in at the Game and Fish booth. This is a great time to bring the kids out for a nice day of fishing.

Saturday, June 9

National Get Outdoors Day. 9 a.m. – 2 p.m. Parker Canyon Lake Off of AZ-83, Cochise County, Ariz., 85611

Details: National Get Outdoors Day is a chance for families to experience a variety of outdoor recreation activities. As part of the National Get Outdoors Day, the Arizona Game and Fish Department is planning a morning of free fishing for the whole family. The AZGFD Sport Fishing Education Program staff and volunteer instructors will be on hand to assist anglers. Bait and loaner rods will be available for participants on a first-come, first-serve basis. The event is free and no fishing licenses are required during the planned hours of the event, for those who register at the Game & Fish booth. This is a great time to bring the kids out for a nice day of fishing!

Saturday, June 23

9th annual Kids Fishing Derby. 7 a.m. – 11 a.m. at Fool Hollow Lake in Show Low.

Details: The Arizona Game and Fish Department along with the City of Show Low will team up with Hatch Toyota. Registration starts at 6 a.m. Arizona Game and Fish will have a limited number of fishing poles, tackle, and bait available to borrow during the event. No fishing license is required during event hours when registered for the derby. Johnny Johnson will again be the official weigh master of the event. Prizes will be given to kids up to 16 years old catching the largest fish for their age group.
