The final chances to fish most high country may be here. Fishing’s excellent at Dogtown Lake near Williams. The lake last weekend was 3/4 ice covered — and growing. We consider all ice on lakes unsafe.
Be sure to check the stocking schedules. Because we will not be stocking Tempe Town Lake this winter (see the full report) we’ll be adding bonus trout into the Lower Salt River, as well as the Salt-chain lakes. Community Fishing Program lakes and ponds continue to get frequent trout stockings.
Aside from our top-5 fishing waters for this winter (see the Fish AZ blog article below), anglers can consider fishing the Davis Dam on the Colorado River. Doc, pictured here, caught these nice stripers. Rainbow trout were stocked during the Welcome Back the Trout event at Davis Camp on Nov. 21. Approximately 7,500 trout were stocked. The river bite for stripers has increased after the trout were stocked. The bite for larger stripers is best near the dam.
Before fishing this weekend, see our Fish&Boat AZ map for exact locations.
Finally, by purchasing your license online annually, you also are conserving wildlife for the future and leading wildlife conservation efforts. Thanks for your passion for wildlife.
